David Lin, National President of 4A at AT&T, and Carol Tagayun, National Board President of
Asians for Corporate and Community Action,
sent a joint letter to their organization's members today
disclosing the progress of merger discussions between the two non-profit, employee-initiated organizations in AT&T, Inc.
The text of the letter follows:
With great pleasure, we want to inform you that our two Asian American employee organizations at AT&T Inc.,
namely, 4A and ACCA, have been meeting over the past quarter in discussions regarding a possible merger
between our two organizations.
Our interactions over the past few months have confirmed that we have very similar missions, goals, and vision.
Our two organizations both have a strong and illustrious history of serving our respective membership,
our companies, and our community for many years. Both organizations have active and dedicated officers and members.
To effect this merger, we have formed a Merger Taskforce to examine all legal, financial, and structural issues
that need to be reviewed in order to build a combined organization.
Our guiding principle is to build a strong organization to better serve our key constituents
- our members, our company, and our community.
Given our many synergies, we have a great opportunity to utilize the strengths and resources of both organizations.
We also can build a combined, stronger organization that will result in a more effective voice for all Asian American employees at AT&T.
Currently, we have set June 30, 2006 as our merger completion date. Additionally, we plan to celebrate the formation
of our new organization at our upcoming Perspectives 2006 annual awards and dinner event scheduled for Friday, September 22, 2006,
in Oakland, California. During our Perspectives event, we will continue our tradition of recognizing
Corporate Leadership, Community Leadership, and Outstanding Member Award honorees.
More information will follow in a separate communications by the Event Planning Committee.
Finally, we want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your enthusiastic support of our organizations,
and we will keep you apprised of our progress.
