Formation of the Asian Pacific Islanders for Professional and Community Advancement (APCA) AT&T Employee Resource Group

In a letter to all AT&T employees today, David Lin, National President of 4A at AT&T, and Carol Tagayun, National Board President of Asians for Corporate and Community Action, announced the formation of the Asian Pacific Islanders for Professional and Community Advancement (APCA) AT&T Employee Resource Group (ERG). This is the culmination of merger discussions between the two non-profit, employee-initiated organizations in AT&T, Inc. announced back on May 11, 2006.

The body of the letter follows:

It is with great pleasure that we announce the formation of the Asian Pacific Islanders for Professional and Community Advancement (APCA), effective November 1, 2006. APCA is formed from the merger of the two Asian American employee organizations at AT&T: Asian Pacific American Association for Advancement (4A) and Asians for Corporate and Community Advancement (ACCA).

Since the AT&T/SBC merger in November 2005, 4A and ACCA have been collaborating on a number of mutually beneficial initiatives. This announcement further signifies both organizations' strong desire to combine the strength and resources of two great organizations as one.

The guiding principle of our merger is to build a strong Pan Asian American ERG to better serve our key constituents - our members, our company, and our community. Through the years, both 4A and ACCA have served our constituents well and built significant brand equity both internally and externally. With the consummation of the merger, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to utilize and further leverage our strengths and resources to become an even more effective voice for all Asian American employees at the new AT&T.

Finally, we want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your enthusiastic support of our respective organizations in the past. A very special thank you to our Executive Champions and Advisors for their unwavering commitment to diversity and their invaluable advice and counsel. We look forward to your continued support of APCA in the years to come!
